Esther Lachman, once a celebrated courtesan, became the Marquise de Païva and commissioned a residence that embodied the wealth, taste, and social ambition of mid-19th-century Paris. The onyx staircase, formal salons, and ornamental programs constitute a rare in-situ ensemble of decorative arts from this period. A terrace overlooking the Champs-Élysées extends the reception spaces and provides one of the avenue’s most privileged vantage points.
